Some of Larry's stringed instruments
Larry Stalnaker
I first started playing music as a teenager in some of the honky-tonks and bars in
West Virginia and Ohio. It was always my dream to make a recording someday.
It has taken a lot of years for that dream to be realized, but it has finally happened.
My voice is a "little rough" now, but as I think about it, probably no rougher than
some of the bars where I learned to perform.
The biggest incentive for making this CD was to leave something for my children and
grandchildren that would last...something that would say "Larry Stalnaker was here."
I have so many people to thank for making this CD possible. My wife, for her patience
when I was practicing, rehearsing, and off doing the recording. My brother, "Banjo Bill,"
who first taught me to play guitar, and played all those bars with me. Bill left us much too
soon. To Bud Stalnaker for inspiring the title "A Few Old Memories." He and I share a lot
of them. To Mike Jones for always being there and for always sharing laughter with me.
To Ron and Mary Ellen Brady for the use of the "bear lair" so many times. And especially
for the use of the upper deck of their cabin for the cover photo. To my Bluegrass buddy
Gary Richardson for leading me to the best place in the world to do this recording.
Most of all, my sincere thanks to Lacy Pittman for putting it all together from the
beginning to the end, and letting me realize my dream. Whatever may be good about this
CD was made possible by his patience and professionalism. The bad parts - I did all by
myself!
